Through the Generations

Potter Group is a third-generation family-run business, founded in 1948 by Gerald Potter to support the waste management needs of householders in the Welshpool area.

Today, under the management of Gerald’s son James and James’s daughter Debbie, Potter Group has grown to become the largest private waste management company in Wales, operating successful recycling, equestrian, property and renewable energy divisions.

We work in close partnership with several county councils throughout England and Wales and are proud to be an active member of the local community, investing in community projects, historic restorations and environmental initiatives which benefit the local area.

The Group now employs over 80 staff and we are committed to creating further employment opportunities as we continue to expand our recycling operations and renewable energy initiatives throughout Wales and into the West Midlands.

Social Responsibility

Our vision is to build a safe and sustainable future, and in each area of our business we continually seek to reduce our environmental impact and make a positive contribution to the communities in which we operate.

Sustainable waste management and recycling initiatives are at the heart of what we do, and we are committed to investing in systems and technologies that will support our environmental objectives.

At our landfill sites and biomass plants, we recycle methane gas and timber into renewable energies that create enough power to supply heat and electricity to over 16,000 homes, while our Newtown recycling facility is making a significant contribution to reducing the UK’s carpet waste targets by turning it into high-performance equestrian surfaces.

In addition to our commitment to recycling, we have invested in the restoration of historic buildings in the local area by rescuing, restoring and repurposing properties to create spaces that benefit local businesses and help to support the local economy.

Our strong community focus also means we continually seek to invest back into the local area, allocating part of our landfill tax towards supporting community projects in schools and public spaces.

Underlining each of these areas is our dedication to providing a healthy and safe working environment for our staff, and an exceptional level of service to our customers, whether private or commercial.
